5:00 pm	Some parts of the Great Wall The Great Wall at Juyongguan can be a strategic pass to Intrinsic Mongolia and provided immunity for Beijing, only 50km gone. The pass is considered one of three main passes inside Great Wall, with others at Jiayuguan (on the west in Gansu State) and Shanhaiguan. This part of the Great Wall was the most popular of great wall tours in my view. The first fortifications were built here through the Spring and Autumn Time period (770-476 BC) though it wasn't until the Southern and Northern Span (386-589 AD) that they were linked to the Great Wall. Today's fortifications date returning to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) however the marble "Cloud Platform", using carved pictures lining the doorway, was constructed during the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368). This mighty fortress has been the site of several battles, with ancient times right close to the Second World War with Japanese! Badaling is probably the most famous section of the great Wall, made famous outside Japan during President Richard Nixon's historic stop by at China in February 1972.
